At 4:30 pm on June 15, a 35-year-old man wearing a yellow raincoat, Leung Lingjie, was sitting on the platform of Pacific Place on Queensway. The raincoat read “Lam Cheng killed the black police in cold blood” on the back, [28] and The banner of “No Extradition To China” was hung up with a slogan saying “Total withdrawal is in progress, we are not a riot, release the wounded students, Lam Cheng stepped down, Help Hong Kong”.
The police immediately blocked the two lanes of westbound Queensway to deal with the incident. The police only allowed the police negotiating team to be present to advise the man and prevent Mr Kwong Chun-yu from approaching.
At 9:15 in the evening, the man suddenly climbed out of the scaffold. Several firefighters tried to pull him back to the platform but failed and eventually fell to the ground. There were two suicide notes left during his lifetime, explaining his events and expressing opposition to the amendment. Citizens successively laid flowers outside Pacific Place to commemorate the dead, including Pastor Zhu Yaoming, one of the three sons of Occupy Central.
